Springmount Drag Racing Association Inc.
President’s Report
30th June, 2011
The 23rd of June, 2011 saw the club’s Annual General Meeting take place at The
Stump in Atherton. The evening was a success, with a good turnout of members.
We had several members renew their membership on the night. Slingshot
Automotive came on board as a new Sponsor on the evening. We would like to give
a big thank you to all of the members that were in attendance, participated and
shared ideas and suggestions for the Club at the AGM.
The Club has come a long way in the past year toward meeting technical
requirements, conducting negotiations and keeping a forward momentum despite
limited funding. The Club has seen a good show of support from memberships and
sponsorships. We would like to thank all of our members, sponsors and donators for
their continued support.
Elections were held on the evening of the AGM and the following were elected as the
club’s Officers and Committee Members for the 2011/2012 year:-
President: Bruno Fegatilli
Secretary: Rico Moro
Treasurer: Suzann Horton
Committee Members: Elio Quintieri, Arcon Fegatilli, Angelo Zanette,
Michael Rocca, Peter Mazzer, John Mitchell.
EXCITING NEW BUSINESS
This year stands to be the best and most exciting year to be involved!
I have recently been engaged in negotiations and communications that have evolved
into the BEST chance the club will ever have to actually get this track off the ground,
built to completion and operating in the very near future. As most of you are aware,
the devastating natural disasters recently suffered by Queensland has set back the
hopes of the Club obtaining any Government Funding to help build the facility to at
least 2 to 3 years, maybe beyond considering the economic climate and uncertainty
with our Government.
The Club has an Angel Investor that has just come forward making a very generous
offer of $1,000,000.00 in the form of capital invested towards construction of the
facility.
Time is of the essence as the Club must match the $1,000,000.00 investment and
we only have 8 months to do so but this incredible opportunity puts us halfway to the
realization of the Club’s dreams becoming a reality in less than half the projected
time.
At this time the Club needs everyone to pull together and get as many donations,
sponsorships, memberships, any and all funding gathered together to propel this
venture forward to make an ANDRA sanctioned drag strip, multi-purpose motorsport
complex a functioning reality.
All funds and contributions will be securely placed into a Special Building Fund
Account. Contributions will be tax deductible and refundable in the event the Club is
not able to raise the necessary $1,000,000.00 matching funds contribution in the 8
months allotted.
This funding will see the asphalt laid, the sound barriers put into place and
everything bar the lights to meet the necessary requirements for the Club to hold an
actual event. This is an extremely exciting time and we encourage everyone to do
the best they can to be a part of this ground breaking opportunity to be included in
the foundation of a premier motorsport complex in Far North Queensland.
We implore everyone to put their heads together and come up with some fundraising
events and ideas to help the Club reach this financial goal as soon as possible.
We are currently in the process of organizing a Committee meeting to take place
within the next 2 weeks and will update everyone with information resulting from
same.
Please submit any suggestions to webcontact1@springmountdragracing.com or
post suggestions, donations and memberships to PO Box 564; Atherton Q 4883.

Bruno Fegatilli

SDRA SECRETARYS REPORT 20-3-2011
Hello members
The Committee has had two meetings since the January meeting, one on the 13-2-2011 and the other on the 13-3-2011.
MEETING 13-2-2011
At this meeting the Committee discussed concerns as things were stalling in regards to fund raising, and that the Committee had no clear direction in which way to proceed. We were contacted by the QLD Department of Sport and Recreation, telling us that all funding has been put on hold due to the storm and flooding damage QLD has received this year. Bruno, the SDRA President informed the Committee that he has been in contact with Sarah Macdonald and asked her if she was still interested in working for us as a consultant. The Committee agreed to meet with her at our next meeting to discuss a way forward.
On the SDRA website a supporters’ register has being created. This allows people to make donations to SDRA whether they are members or not. For those people who are interested in SDRA but not quite ready to become a member, this is a way for donating to SDRA. The Committee decided to progress this donation option as all support is greatly appreciated, and it all helps to work towards our goal of building the facility.
MEETING 13-3-2011
This meeting was specifically to discuss with Sarah Macdonald from Commerce Therapy, her proposal to build the organisation and work towards our goal of building the facility. The proposal highlighted 5 key areas for development:
1)stakeholder identification
2)sponsorship acquisition
3)governance &club development
4)public relations & marketing
5)grant writing & fundraising
Through the development of these 5 keys areas a number of activities will be undertaken. Club members will notice an increase in SDRA exposure through a number of media channels. Further to this Sarah will be working to build our online and social media presence. The sponsorship program is one area where a number of improvements will be made, which will assist SDRA will build the financial backing required to apply for Government Funding. One such Funding which was suggested by Sarah was the Minor Facilities Funding through the Department of Sport and Recreation. This funding is for a total project cost of $400,000.00 with SDRA contribution of $100,000.00. Further to this SDRA will be working towards eligibility for Major Funding through the Department of Sport and Recreation. The requirements of these funding rounds will require a Feasibility Study to be completed on the proposed facility. As such RPS has been contracted to undertake this project. Sarah will be liaising with RPS to ensure the study reflects the necessary information.
The Committee discussed the proposed fee structure with Sarah, and was believed it was very reasonable, therefor voted to contract Sarah for the proposed activities. To ensure accountability Sarah will be reporting to the Committee monthly on all activities and progress.
In more news SDRA have received the ‘proud to be sponsor’ signs they look great so keep an eye out for them.

Presidents Report 17-1-2011
Hi members
Happy New Year to you all.
We have just had our first committee meeting of the year and I have a few things to report.
1st. We have had some enquires from Business's and Event Promoters wanting to advertise on our web site. The committee decided what we can offer them a mail out service where we would email their advertising to all our members; the committee also decided that a fee of $400.00 would be charged each time it would be sent. Sponsors will receive one of these email outs per year free.
2nd. We have received a letter from the Queensland Minister for Sports; it states that we are eligible for 50% of the total project cost up to a maximum of $2,000,000. To get this amount of funding the first thing they have asked us to do is to undertake a full and professional feasibility study. We are currently going through the process of finding someone to do this study for us; there will obviously be a cost involved for this study.
3rd. Since our general meeting on the 9-12-2010 the committee has had to compromise on the matter of membership fees. The committee has decided that an SDRA Support Form will be drawn up so people that do not want to be Financial Members; but still want to support the club can do so by filling this in, they will then be a non financial member for free. We would keep these forms on file and use these numbers of supporters when we send in the proposals for funding. At the bottom of the form there will be our bank details and business's where any donations can be made, note all correspondence should be directed to the club's post office box address. Membership to the club will still remain at $50.00; I hope that this compromise will end this issue once and for all.
4th. Rico is still working away at a proposal to apply to the Tableland Council for permission to run an 1/8 mile race meeting at the Mareeba Aerodrome. I would like to remind everyone that this is just a proposal at this stage and in no way do we have any answer from anyone yet. The idea behind this is to show the politicians, councilors and public what drag racing is all about and how it will benefit the community.
The Committee and myself would like to thank all our members and sponsors for their support, without their continued support we would not be in such a strong position and I urge everyone to support our sponsors in every way possible, even if you simply recommend them to someone you know, it would be greatly appreciated.
Remember if you want a Drag Strip get involved, every bit helps, it all makes it that much easier.
If you have any question, comments or suggestions please contact us on webcontact1@springmountdragracing.com or PO Box 567, Atherton, 4883.
Regards,
Bruno Fegatilli - (Club President)
