Springmount Drag Racing Association Inc.
President’s Report
30th June, 2011

The 23rd of June, 2011 saw the club’s Annual General Meeting take place at The
Stump in Atherton. The evening was a success, with a good turnout of members.
We had several members renew their membership on the night. Slingshot
Automotive came on board as a new Sponsor on the evening. We would like to give
a big thank you to all of the members that were in attendance, participated and
shared ideas and suggestions for the Club at the AGM.
The Club has come a long way in the past year toward meeting technical
requirements, conducting negotiations and keeping a forward momentum despite
limited funding. The Club has seen a good show of support from memberships and
sponsorships. We would like to thank all of our members, sponsors and donators for
their continued support.
Elections were held on the evening of the AGM and the following were elected as the
club’s Officers and Committee Members for the 2011/2012 year:-
President: Bruno Fegatilli
Secretary: Rico Moro
Treasurer: Suzann Horton
Committee Members: Elio Quintieri, Arcon Fegatilli, Angelo Zanette,
Michael Rocca, Peter Mazzer, John Mitchell.

EXCITING NEW BUSINESS
This year stands to be the best and most exciting year to be involved!
I have recently been engaged in negotiations and communications that have evolved
into the BEST chance the club will ever have to actually get this track off the ground,
built to completion and operating in the very near future. As most of you are aware,
the devastating natural disasters recently suffered by Queensland has set back the
hopes of the Club obtaining any Government Funding to help build the facility to at
least 2 to 3 years, maybe beyond considering the economic climate and uncertainty
with our Government.
The Club has an Angel Investor that has just come forward making a very generous
offer of $1,000,000.00 in the form of capital invested towards construction of the
facility.
Time is of the essence as the Club must match the $1,000,000.00 investment and
we only have 8 months to do so but this incredible opportunity puts us halfway to the
realization of the Club’s dreams becoming a reality in less than half the projected
time.
At this time the Club needs everyone to pull together and get as many donations,
sponsorships, memberships, any and all funding gathered together to propel this
venture forward to make an ANDRA sanctioned drag strip, multi-purpose motorsport
complex a functioning reality.
All funds and contributions will be securely placed into a Special Building Fund
Account. Contributions will be tax deductible and refundable in the event the Club is
not able to raise the necessary $1,000,000.00 matching funds contribution in the 8
months allotted.
This funding will see the asphalt laid, the sound barriers put into place and
everything bar the lights to meet the necessary requirements for the Club to hold an
actual event. This is an extremely exciting time and we encourage everyone to do
the best they can to be a part of this ground breaking opportunity to be included in
the foundation of a premier motorsport complex in Far North Queensland.
We implore everyone to put their heads together and come up with some fundraising
events and ideas to help the Club reach this financial goal as soon as possible.
We are currently in the process of organizing a Committee meeting to take place
within the next 2 weeks and will update everyone with information resulting from
same.

Please submit any suggestions to webcontact1@springmountdragracing.com or
post suggestions, donations and memberships to PO Box 564; Atherton Q 4883.

SDRA SECRETARYS REPORT 20-3-2011

Hello members

The Committee has had two meetings since the January meeting, one on the 13-2-2011 and the other on the 13-3-2011.

MEETING 13-2-2011

At this meeting the Committee discussed concerns as things were stalling in regards to fund raising, and that the Committee had no clear direction in which way to proceed. We were contacted by the QLD Department of Sport and Recreation, telling us that all funding has been put on hold due to the storm and flooding damage QLD has received this year. Bruno, the SDRA President informed the Committee that he has been in contact with Sarah Macdonald and asked her if she was still interested in working for us as a consultant. The Committee agreed to meet with her at our next meeting to discuss a way forward.

On the SDRA website a supporters’ register has being created.  This allows people to make donations to SDRA whether they are members or not. For those people who are interested in SDRA but not quite ready to become a member, this is a way for donating to SDRA. The Committee decided to progress this donation option as all support is greatly appreciated, and it all helps to work towards our goal of building the facility.

MEETING 13-3-2011

This meeting was specifically to discuss with Sarah Macdonald from Commerce Therapy, her proposal to build the organisation and work towards our goal of building the facility. The proposal highlighted 5 key areas for development:

1)stakeholder identification

2)sponsorship acquisition

3)governance &club development

4)public relations & marketing

5)grant writing & fundraising

Through the development of these 5 keys areas a number of activities will be undertaken. Club members will notice an increase in SDRA exposure through a number of media channels. Further to this Sarah will be working to build our online and social media presence. The sponsorship program is one area where a number of improvements will be made, which will assist SDRA will build the financial backing required to apply for Government Funding. One such Funding which was suggested by Sarah was the Minor Facilities Funding through the Department of Sport and Recreation. This funding is for a total project cost of $400,000.00 with SDRA contribution of $100,000.00. Further to this SDRA will be working towards eligibility for Major Funding through the Department of Sport and Recreation. The requirements of these funding rounds will require a Feasibility Study to be completed on the proposed facility. As such RPS has been contracted to undertake this project. Sarah will be liaising with RPS to ensure the study reflects the necessary information.

The Committee discussed the proposed fee structure with Sarah, and was believed it was very reasonable, therefor voted to contract Sarah for the proposed activities. To ensure accountability Sarah will be reporting to the Committee monthly on all activities and progress.

In more news SDRA have received the ‘proud to be sponsor’ signs they look great so keep an eye out for them.

Presidents Report 17-1-2011

Hi members

Happy New Year to you all.

We have just had our first committee meeting of the year and I have a few things to report.

1st. We have had some enquires from Business's and Event Promoters wanting to advertise on our web site. The committee decided what we can offer them a mail out service where we would email their advertising to all our members; the committee also decided that a fee of $400.00 would be charged each time it would be sent. Sponsors will receive one of these email outs per year free.

2nd. We have received a letter from the Queensland Minister for Sports; it states that we are eligible for 50% of the total project cost up to a maximum of $2,000,000. To get this amount of funding the first thing they have asked us to do is to undertake a full and professional feasibility study. We are currently going through the process of finding someone to do this study for us; there will obviously be a cost involved for this study.

3rd. Since our general meeting on the 9-12-2010 the committee has had to compromise on the matter of membership fees. The committee has decided that an SDRA Support Form will be drawn up so people that do not want to be Financial Members; but still want to support the club can do so by filling this in, they will then be a non financial member for free. We would keep these forms on file and use these numbers of supporters when we send in the proposals for funding. At the bottom of the form there will be our bank details and business's where any donations can be made, note all correspondence should be directed to the club's post office box address. Membership to the club will still remain at $50.00; I hope that this compromise will end this issue once and for all.

4th. Rico is still working away at a proposal to apply to the Tableland Council for permission to run an 1/8 mile race meeting at the Mareeba Aerodrome. I would like to remind everyone that this is just a proposal at this stage and in no way do we have any answer from anyone yet. The idea behind this is to show the politicians, councilors and public what drag racing is all about and how it will benefit the community.

The Committee and myself would like to thank all our members and sponsors for their support, without their continued support we would not be in such a strong position and I urge everyone to support our sponsors in every way possible, even if you simply recommend them to someone you know, it would be greatly appreciated.

Remember if you want a Drag Strip get involved, every bit helps, it all makes it that much easier.

If you have any question, comments or suggestions please contact us on webcontact1@springmountdragracing.com or PO Box 567, Atherton, 4883.

Regards,
Bruno Fegatilli - (Club President)

Club Report 15th November 2010

Hi Members,

We have been working towards a general meeting since last we had the open forum in Cairns, as yet we are awaiting a response from guests of which we have invited to attend this up and coming meeting.

These guests will be an integral part of us receiving our government funding so until we hear back from them we ask that you be patient. I know the timing is not optimal for everyone being that it is so close to Christmas; but we are working towards getting everyone to the meeting which will ensure our success in receiving the money we require from government.

The SDRA Committee has met and has discussed everything that was bought up at the open forum; the committee’s outcome will be bought up at the next general meeting. We will keep you updated as best we can; please keep checking back with the website for updates, details will be posted up as regularly as possible or as new information becomes available. http://www.springmountdragracing.com

If you have any queries the club can be contacted via: webcontact1@springmountdragracing.com

Presidents Report – 4th November 2010

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Richard from Southside New & Used for all of his efforts in helping stage a successfully rally for support. To each and every one of you that attended last night’s open forum ‘Thank you.’

Secondly it’s really encouraging to see there are so many passionate motorsport persons here in Far North Queensland; the Club was facing a lot of uncertainty without your support. As we mentioned we can not approach a government institute seeking large amounts of funding with a limited number of members, they will simply give the funding to another group or sporting venture which has member support.

I would personally like to apologize for the lack of information available to you all of late; the website hasn’t had any news to pass along to you due to the fact that we were tied up waiting for quotes. The Club members wanted an ‘A’ Class track / venue and that is what we have been working towards. As we have said before if we build it to this standard we will have a lot more options, with regards to the classes of vehicles we will be able to have at the venue.

We have also been working on suitable insurance; and finalizing affiliation details with ANDRA. The construction costing and details of all this will be posted on the website shortly; remember this is a quote for the purpose of getting funding and to establish a baseline for what we require. I know there are a lot of you out there with the necessary skills equipment and man power to help us, all of this will come when we get all the necessary official paperwork in place; we are close now but must continue do it by the book.

A lot of debate was held in regards to the membership fee, and I dare say it will be a talking point for sometime to come, but the simple fact is that, if you take into context the amount of travelling costs to go race or spectate at Townsville the membership fee is nothing. This will debated and a revision of our membership fee will be done at our next general meeting; but please remember this track is for each and every one of you out there.  We need your continued support; with more members we can approach the government with confidence and ask them for the large amount we require. It is an unfortunate fact that the Townsville Dragway’s days are number, we need a drag strip in Far North Queensland.

In the coming weeks we will be having a General Meeting in Cairns as was requested, this will be an official meeting to ratify what has happened and of late and to formally vote on what was / has and will be brought up. The details of the meeting will be posted on the website.

We ask that if there is something you wish to have discussed or voted upon at the meeting, or if you have any information, or are able to help us in anyway; could you please send the details to us via the website contact email address.

webcontact1@springmountdragracing.com

We welcome all of your questions, suggestions, submissions and queries; but use the email address provided, do not send information directly to the club members, and ‘PLEASE NO SPAM OR JUNK EMAILS’ or this service will be halted. Alternatively if you have no access to the internet, use our postal address as follows;

SDRA Presidents Update 10th May 2010.

Hello Members of the Springmount Drag Racing Association.

After receiving the written Council approval we went straight back into negotiations with them; the approval we received was too restrictive for the purpose of an International Standard Facility; we have been in consultation with them and the other governing bodies since that day. We hope to have a new approval with more suitable guidelines etc in the not to distant future.

I would ask that everyone be patient while we get this sorted as it would be pointless to continue without the correct approvals in place. I would like to thank those who having been working to get this all through and also to those who have renewed their memberships even before the end of financial year renewal date.

We will continue to keep members informed of the progress, however if you have any enquiries or concerns; please EMAIL the Springmount Drag Racing Association via our Contacts Page on the Web Site.

We ask that no one contact the council as all correspondence between the Tablelands Regional Council and Springmount Drag Racing Association is the responsibility of the Executive Committee.

The Club will be holding an open forum to discuss the details in the not to distant future.

Please keep watching for details

SDRA Presidents Update 18th Feb 2010.

Hello Members of the Springmount Drag Racing Association.

We have had a request from Council for further additional planning information with regards to our proposal; we are working to gather the information requested and will endeavour to have it ready so as to make the next Council planning meeting. The proposal is in good shape and just needs some final adjustments to make it possible for a Full Council Approval.

Until we receive full Council approval we cannot go further with the development of the Drag Strip.

Once Approval has been given by the Council

We will be undertaking the following actions;

Finalisation of the lease agreement.

Letter of Authority supporting the proposal

from the Queensland Police Force.

Funding Proposals.

Organisational development and planning.

Expression of interest for ANDRA Approval.

Detailed project plan, including costings.

Increase in Club activities and events.

The Club wants the very best outcome possible and will work with all the governing bodies once we receive their recommendations. We’ve provided adequate information so as to make them aware of the International Standard, of which is our end goal.

So the bottom line at the present moment is that we are waiting for a simple YES or NO from Council.

We ask that no one contact the council as all correspondence between the Tablelands Regional Council and Springmount Drag Racing Association is the responsibility of the Executive Committee.

We will continue to keep members informed of the progress, however if you have any enquiries or concerns; please EMAIL the Springmount Drag Racing Association via our Contacts Page on the Web Site.

The Club is confident of a positive outcome and will be holding an open forum to discuss the outcome as soon as we hear from the Council.

Regards

Presidents Report,      17th September 2009.

Another well attended meeting which saw our clubs membership numbers grow. We held the meeting so as to facilitate the Community of Cairns and outlying areas which haven’t been able to attend the meetings held in Atherton. We started with a general run down of the club’s conception, its primary goal and how and what we’ve done to get to where we are at today. We had speakers there who have been instrumental in getting us to this point, and person/s who are going to be helping us in the not to distant future as everything comes to fruition. Since the last meeting the Club has been working long and hard to get all the required information that has been requested from us by the Council to meet its requirements. Sound acoustic tests have been paid for and have been done at the site of which we are waiting the report for submission, the finalization of paper work and submissions for landscaping with the incorporation of sound barriers & mounds, and finally EPA requirements and requests for the submission. The leases for the land have been finalized with all parties agreeing on an end result, and the legal obligations/signatures been put in place.

The next step is obviously the resubmission of everything and the obligatory advertising of objections to the proposal as required by law. This has to be advertised for a prescribed amount of time and will take up to 6wks to complete so we’re not holding another meeting till we hear the outcome, as details become available they will posted on the clubs website.

With us having to advertise for any objections to the proposal what we are also looking to do is get a Petition Notice of Support for the Venture up on the web site to correspond with the other, what we ask is that once it is put up there, that you all download it print it and return to us so we can forward it to our local governing bodies so as to press the point as to how much we really do need this facility. So if you have any interest in Motorsports & Drag Racing in Far North Queensland please support it. This has to be a group effort the more people we have behind it as a club and in general then the quicker it will happen. We have the land all we need now is the go head from council, and the funds to do it all. Show you support join and become a financial member. All donations are great fully accepted. If the meeting was any indication "I’m proud to say Drag Racing Is Alive and Well in Far North Queensland

Regards,

Presidents report.

9/8/2009

It was in the beginning of August 2008, a full year ago that I gave Mr Murray Moule a phone call with a proposal about land for a drag strip near Walkamin of which he owns. We had a quick meeting with him and he gave us the go-ahead. From that phone call 12mths ago till today, we’ve had our up’s and down’s.  We have always wanted a drag strip up here on the Tablelands so this was our chance to make it a reality. I called a few guys to ask if they were keen to set up a drag strip; we formed a club and held our first meeting in August 2008. From this we organized a working bee, and proceeded to inspect the site on the 31st of August 2008 to see if the land was suitable. Thus the first photos on the website were of people slashing and taking measurements.

 SITE IS PERFECT!

About one and a half meters difference from one end to the other end, 15 kilometers from Walkamin, plenty of room and best of all it was over a kilometer long. Since then we have negotiated a fair lease on the land which took 5months. We did up an application and submitted it to the council and then waited for some good news. At present we are gathering relevant information and documentation to forefill council requests/conditions.

We have run the club for 12 months with only 18 members with most of the members donating $50 to $500 to get things up and running; we’ve managed to keep costs to date under $3000 with most of the work, such as a soil test, sewerage, land applications, surveying, leases, etc. all now completed and having been done by qualified people for nothing, these people as we can see there is a future in this and are doing there utmost to help us, it’s now up to every one out there to get behind it. We still have a fair way to go but we have it all in our hands now and we can’t just let it slip away.

From the very conception of it all, we were 99% sure we could get the land and all the relevant approvals of which we needed to make it all happen; we kept it low key until then so as not to give anyone false hope. Since that last meeting on the 6th of August 2009, we have had a stack of new members and quite a few large donations. The hard work has now been done with getting the land and subjective approvals a major step. I know urge you all to get involved; the club has done as much as it can now we need you to get involved by becoming a member and helping out where ever you can.  All submissions can be made via the website contact forms and membership forms.

Thank you.

Bruno Fegatilli.

Hi guys;

Here's a quick update from last nights meeting,

The Springmount Drag Racing Association are seeking full council approval for the construction of a drag strip on the Atherton Tablelands, they are in the process of fore filling council requests for further information and conditional requirements, as you can imagine with a project of this size there has/is a lot of regulatory paperwork which has to be done.

The club members have worked tirelessly to get this all off the ground so there will be a purpose built facility here in Far North Queenland (on the Atherton Tablelands); where people can take there vehicle and use them in a safe controlled environment.

The club is also in the progress of putting together advertising through various media sources and also a web page is under way. The next meeting will be held in Cairns on the 17th of September 2009 7:30pm the venue is yet to be determined so continue to watch for updates.

An expression of interest form/paperwork will be places at a static display which the club is hoping to have setup at each of the up & coming motoring events being held in the region. What we ask from all interested persons/parties is that you pass on your details to the persons at those displays so we can keep you all up to date.

The club is endeavoring to setup locations in Cairns, Atherton, Innisfail & Mareeba where in anyone who wishes to genuinely help out can drop into and show there support by becoming a financial member of the club. Membership will be $50 per year, renewable at the start of each financial year; so now is the time to show your support become a member, pass on your details and advise us of what you would be able to offer to the club.

We are also looking for a suitable club logo so anyone out there handy with a computer is only to welcome to make submissions as to a possible club logo.

Any further queries/questions at this time can be answered by filling out the contact us form, as the phonecalls have become overwealming!

We need your support please become financial members and show you are truly behind this cause, come on a long to the meeting. Details as to where and how you can become a member and where the next meeting which will be held in Cairns will be put up in the near future any and all donations will be great fully accepted.

Drag Racing Alive & Well in Far North Queensland.

Cheers

Leonard Trembath
